Last week, two supercars were revealed, the Lamborghini Veneno and the Ferrari La Ferrari. Spectators oogled the cars as the information unfolded including the extravagant price tag. But who won best in show and which company now has the car to beat? Here’s a detailed analysis of each car and their respective merits broken down for you.
DesignThe Veneno is named after the strongest and fastest fighting bull that gained recognition for killing a matador in 1914. This pure-bred Italian super sports car flaunts red, green and white colored accents on its flanks, an obvious tribute to the Italian flag. The trademark Lamborghini styling is taken to an extreme with an arrow-shaped front end, razor-sharp lines, and exaggerated proportions. The shark fin engine cover is the first of its kind and was added to increase aerodynamic efficiency, however, the outcome makes it seem more odd than sexy.
La Ferrari, on the other hand, seems like the evolution of both the Enzo and the Italia. It’s striking and innovative, yet has a sophisticated polish that wasn’t apparent in the Veneno. The design has elegant lines that run the length of it’s body including a rear line that seems to divide the car in a stunning fashion. And best of all, there’s no ostentatious fins, flaps, or spoilers that ruin the sleek curves as other cars have done.

PerformanceThe Veneno is equipped with a twelve-cylinder engine that is based on the Aventador design. It has a displacement of 6.5 liters, coupled with a 7-speed ISR transmission with 5 driving modes and permanent all-wheel drive. With a maximum output of 552 kW / 750 hp, it accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in just under 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 MPH. This is definitely not your parent’s Honda Civic.
The La Ferrari is actually a hybrid car that sports a 6262cc V12 and an electric motor that generates 120 KW to produce a total of 950hp. It will go from 0-60 in well under 3 seconds and 0 to 124 in less than 7 seconds. It’s top speed is around 220 mph, the same as the Veneno. The Ferrari’s engine is one of the most advanced engines built to date with 516 pound-feet of torque spinning up to 9,250 RPM. It also sports a dual clutch transmission that can change gear in approximately 50 milliseconds.

The La Ferrari is a full on production car that is replacing the aging Enzo. There will be a healthy 499 models made, not a lot by any stretch, but enough to make the most discerning collectors happy. With a price tag of $1.15 million, it’s one of the most expensive cars available on the market, but with the amount of detail put into the car, it will surely be worth it.
